Parliament votes new kwanza on 23 January

The law authorizing the central bank of Angola to issue and circulate new kwanza banknotes, without the face of José Eduardo dos Santos, goes to the final vote on 23 January in parliament.

The diploma is on the agenda of the fourth ordinary plenary session of the third legislative session of the Angolan National Assembly, approved this Friday during the conference of parliamentary leaders, the first of 2020, chaired by the president of parliament, Fernando Dias dos Santos.

The draft law authorizing the National Bank of Angola to issue and circulate a "new Kwanza banknote family" notes that the so-called "2020 series" will bring in new banknotes of 200, 500, 1,000, 2000, 5000 and 10,000 kwanzas.

Only the figure of the first Angolan President, António Agostinho Neto, should appear on the ballots, leaving out the face of José Eduardo dos Santos, who ruled the country for 38 years.

The first plenary meeting of the National Assembly in 2020 also includes the final and global vote on the bill of covert actions for the purposes of prevention and criminal investigation, and areas of environmental conservation.

On January 23, MPs will also vote on the draft bill amending the Securities Code.

Proposed laws on institutions of traditional power, expropriation for public utility and civil requisition will also be voted in general at this plenary session, which also includes the approval of Parliament's budget for 2020.

For the 2017-2022 legislature, the parliament is made up of 220 deputies, of whom 150 are from Angola's People's Liberation Movement, 51 from Angola's National Union for Total Independence, 16 from Angola's Broad Salvation Convergence - Electoral Coalition, two from the Party. Renewal and one of Angola's National Liberation Front.
