Police sentenced to 16 years for murdering Juliana Cafrique

Gonçalo Sacala Canga, an agent of the National Police, was sentenced this Friday to 16 years in prison for the murder of Juliana Cafrique, the newspaper Opaís reported.

:

The agent's trial began on January 10th. Gonçalo Canga was answering for the crime of voluntary homicide after being accused of shooting the street vendor Juliana Cafrique in March 2019 in the Rocha Pinto district.

According to the indictment, Gonçalo Canga was on patrol in that neighborhood when he noticed that there was an irregular sale in that area. Soon the agent, together with his colleagues, began to seize the sellers' assets.

In the middle of the confusion, Juliana Cafrique resisted the police and refused to leave the premises. Faced with the seller's resilience, the officers decided to drive their car over the seller's property.

Chaos set in and the salesmen continued to resist police orders. It was at this moment that the officer now convicted decided to draw his gun and fire two shots, one of which mortally shot the 29 year old saleswoman, Juliana Cafrique.
