In the document made available to Lusa by BFA, the results represent a decline of more than 50 per cent compared with the 710 million dollars in 2018.

The information is included in the summary of the individual unaudited results for 2019, which, amongst other indicators, states that the bank's financial margin reached 418.4 million dollars, a drop of 8.6 per cent compared to the previous period.

Similarly, net commissions fell 14 per cent to 38.3 million dollars.

In 2019, the banking product - all revenues together - fell 50 per cent, to 565.2 million dollars.

The institution adds that at the end of 2019 overdue credit had a weight of 6.4 per cent of total credit granted to customers, 2.8 percentage points more than in the previous year, although it did not quantify figures.

BFA's coverage of credit overdue by impairments totalled 134.8 per cent, down from 179.2 per cent in 2018.

According to the document, the bank exceeded the two million customer mark for the first time, reaching 2,067,844 at the end of 2019, representing an increase of 171,685 customers compared to the previous year.

BFA's regulatory solvency ratio (RSR), which corresponds to the ratio between own funds and the value of assets exposed to the risks inherent in credit operations, stood at 57.5 per cent at the end of 2019, a percentage "significantly above the regulatory minimum limit" of 10 per cent required by the National Bank of Angola.

Since the beginning of 2017, BFA has been controlled by Unitel, Angola's largest telecommunications operator. Previously, BFA was controlled by BPI, which founded the bank in Angola in the 1990s.

However, in January 2017 BPI complied with a requirement of the European Central Bank and reduced the operation in Angola through the sale of 2 per cent of its holding to Unitel.

Since then, BFA has been controlled by Unitel, with 51.9 per cent, BPI having 48.1 per cent.
