Mário de Oliveira, quoted this Friday by Rádio Nacional de Angola, as part of the celebrations of World Press Freedom Day, said that the Government "works every day to improve and respond to citizens' desires".

"We work to make our country great, we work to benefit our fellow citizens like all those who contribute to the development of our country, it is clear that we do not live in a perfect society, we have great challenges ahead of us," he said.

According to the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, one of the country's biggest challenges is education and training at all levels, especially for social communication professionals in issues related to information technologies.

"[These] are nowadays a very important tool for us to get our message across to all Angolan citizens without exception", he concluded.

Angola, Brazil and Portugal countered the downward trend of Portuguese-speaking countries in the World Press Freedom Index published this Friday by the non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

Angola, which last year ranked lowest among Portuguese-speaking countries on the press freedom map, rose 21 positions to 104th place (125th in 2023).
