Regulator registers frequency deviations “above recommended” in eleven radios

At least 11 radio stations in Angola register frequency deviations "above the recommended" in the broadcast of their services and these have ten days to "end with detected infractions", under penalty of sanctions, announces the regulator.

The Angolan Institute of Communications (INACOM) says that the measure comes after a process of inspection and supervision of sound broadcasting bands, namely 87.5-108 MHz between 28 November and 3 December 2022.

Rádio Kairós (Luanda), affects the Methodist Church, radio stations Cacuaco (Luanda), Viana (Luanda), Radio 5 (Huambo), Caála (Huambo), Cunene, Cabinda, Umbundu (Huambo) and Lubamba, all linked to Rádio Nacional de Angola, a state-owned agency, and the radio stations MFM (Luanda) and Despertar (Luanda), which belongs to the UNITA party, are the stations that record frequency deviations "above recommended".

Inacom, the regulatory body for electronic telecommunications in Angola, says it has also found that Rádio 1.º de Agosto, linked to the Sports Club of the Angolan Armed Forces, is broadcasting between the studio and the transmitter in the 414,300 frequency band, "whose rights of occupation and individual use have not been assigned".

"Configuring unauthorized use of that frequency band under the terms of presidential decree n.º 108/16 of 25 May, which approves the General Regulation of Electronic Communications (RGCE)", reads the statement to which Lusa had access this Thursday.

The organisation, under the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, also says that the referred radios have already been notified and they have ten days to put an end to the detected infractions.

Failure to comply with the measure listed above, observes Inacom, is subject to the application of sanctioning processes under the terms of the RGCE and other applicable legislation.

The public institution, in the note dated December 27, 2022, also recalls that the frequency deviation in the emission of the sound broadcasting signal, can cause serious and irreversible damage to aeronautical mobile services, cellular mobile and make it difficult to assign channels to other entities.
