Remember that the 'Palancas Negras' will represent the country in the final phase of the African Cup of Nations – played only with players who line up in competitions on the continent. The competition will take place in Algeria between the 13th of January and the 4th of February next year.
The information was given to the press by the vice-president of the FAF, José Carlos, who stated that the objective of the internship is to have the athletes focused only on this competition.
According to Angop, this positioning by the FAF comes after complaints from the athletes taking into account several delays registered in the preparation of previous competitions.
In this way, the official said he already had guarantees from the Ministry of Youth and Sports about the availability of values for the costs of the internship in Portugal.
In the Algarve, the Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves will be in charge of the athletes Neblu, Hugo Marques, Langanga (goalkeepers), Tó Carneiro, Danilson, Razão, Eddie Afonso, Kinito, Kibeixa, Paizo (defenders), Além, Higino, Keliano , Herenilson, Megue, Vitoriano (middle) and Bito, Gilberto, Caneta, Jaredi, Julinho, Depú and Lepua (advanced). The coach also announced seven players who will be registered as reserves: Migue (goalkeeper), Hossi, Lulas, Pedro Francisco (defenders), Benvindo Afonso (midfielder), Jeffer and Jó Paciência (forwards).
The selection will face two teams in Portugal, in friendly and preparation games, with the opponents still unknown.
In CHAN 2023, the national team is inserted in group D, together with Mali and Mauritania. The first game, against Mali, will be played on the 16th, while the clash with Mauritania is scheduled for the 20th of February.
