Adalberto succeeds Adalberto in UNITA and “Galo Negro” sings again

Effusive whistles, horns and “ye ye yees” greeted the election of Adalberto da Costa Júnior (ACJ) at the XIII UNITA Congress, after the leader was removed from the party leadership by decision of the Constitutional Court (TC).

:

In October, the TC gave reason to a group of militants who alleged irregularities in the November 2019 congress that elected Adalberto da Costa Júnior, namely the fact that he was Portuguese at the time of submission of the candidacy, forcing him to repeat the conclave.

The announcement of the election of ACJ, who ran alone in this election, unlike what happened in 2019 when he defeated four other candidates, was received at the SOVSMO complex, headquarters of the Galo Negro party in Luanda, with explosions of joy.

The announcement was made by the president of the Electoral Commission, African Pedro Kangombe, when it was 9:15 pm, with 1121 votes cast, of which 1081 were in favor of ACJ, or more than 96 percent.

More than 1,000 delegates voted at the congress and were present in the room including UNITA historicals such as Generals Kamalata Numa and Lukamba Gato, Alcides Sakala, and outgoing President Isaías Samakuva, who returned to the party leadership following the removal of ACJ.

The act was also accompanied by Portuguese guests such as the socialist Joao Soares and the deputy head of mission of the Portuguese Embassy in Angola, José Correia, as well as diplomats from other countries and representatives of other national parties, such as Justino Pinto de Andrade from the Democratic Block .

UNITA also had in the election of its president ten invited observers who verified that the act "took place in a peaceful and safe environment", underlined the president of the Electoral Commission.
The electoral act closed the third and last day of the congress, which began on Thursday.

After the winner was announced, Adalberto da Costa Júnior took office, who received from the outgoing president, Isaías Samakuva, various symbolic objects of the "Black Rooster" party, founded by Jonas Savimbi, which is now the main force of the opposition.
