Imex Group opens largest raffia bag factory in sub-Saharan Africa in Ícolo e Bengo

After starting the production of raffia bags in 2018, Imex Indústria – an Angolan company founded in 2002 – this Wednesday completed yet another phase of its expansion plan, having opened a new industrial unit on Estrada de Catete, in Luanda.

The company has been developing the production of conventional raffia bags, customized for the most diverse segments. Since 2018, its production has doubled and, with the entry into operation of the new manufacturing unit, it expects to triple the production capacity with new machines, new hires and also with the launch of new products.

In this way, Imex will also start producing printed laminated bags, BOPP bags for detergents, cement bags, Leno bags for potatoes and onions, bags with plastic film and 1250 kg big bags.

These products will have a capacity of 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 and 150 kilos and may be used for charcoal, flour, wheat, rice, vegetables and beans, says the company, in a statement sent to VerAngola.

The new structure, whose total investment exceeded 10 million dollars, has 8000 square meters and can reach a daily production of 250,000 bags. It is located in the municipality of Ícolo e Bengo, in Luanda, more specifically on the Catete road, km 38. It is the largest raffia bag factory in sub-Saharan Africa, says the company.

This time, the group's plans include exports to other countries on the African continent, after covering all the needs of the national market.

The inauguration event of the new industrial unit, which took place this Wednesday, was attended by government entities such as the minister of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, Ivan Prado, secretary of state for Industry and Humberta Paixão, municipal administrator of Ícolo e Bengo.

All guests had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the company's factories (mattresses, paints, tanks, PVC and HDPE pipes, packaging - plastic cans and buckets) and the new raffia bag factory.

According to Ramzi El Houchaimi, managing director of the IMEX group, this expansion is part of the group's growth strategy, which for the next year also foresees the inauguration of an assembly line for household appliances of the international brands Beko and Defy.

The IMEX group currently has 450 employees, and it will create another two hundred jobs in the short term (190 nationals and 10 expatriates). Since 2002, the company has invested around 25 million dollars in the country. It is present in Luanda, but also in the provinces of Lobito, Huambo, Cabinda and Lubango.
