Luanda and Dakar will be linked by air, announces João Lourenço

Angola and Senegal will now be directly connected by air. The announcement was made this Sunday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who informed that direct air connections between the capitals of the two countries will be established “in the coming days”.

:

Both countries are working to directly connect Luanda and Dakar, as they believe that this action will help to strengthen relations between the two countries, said João Lourenço, quoted by Angop.

The information about the air connection was provided at the end of a meeting that the head of state had with Senegalese President Macky Sall, in Senegal, where he traveled this Sunday to participate in an international forum on peace.

Regarding the meeting, João Lourenço indicated that it served to inform himself about the organization of the forum, which starts this Monday, as well as to discuss matters related to the collaborative relations between Angola and Senegal, writes Angop.

Earlier this year, the first Angolan ambassador with permanent residence in Dakar was appointed. Regarding this change in relations between the two countries, João Lourenço expressed hope that Senegal will soon appoint a diplomat residing in Luanda.

In addition, collaboration in the field of Senegalese oil exploration was also agreed, with a view to Angola helping that country and sharing its experience in this field.

Also this Sunday, João Lourenço was awarded the National Order of the Lion, Senegal's highest distinction reserved for a foreign Head of State.

According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the head of state was decorated by his Senegalese counterpart, in a ceremony that took place at the Presidential Palace in Dakar.

On the occasion, João Lourenço "strongly thanked, on his behalf and that of the Angolan people, for the honorable distinction and reaffirmed his intention to continue working to strengthen bilateral relations".

According to the note, João Lourenço also stressed that his trip to Senegal is not yet a "retribution" for the visit that Macky Sall made to Angola a few months ago, "but that this will take place in due course, being for the time being in Dakar in guest of honor at the eighth International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa", which will take place from 24 to 25 October.

The forum will have as its theme "Africa in the face of exogenous impacts: challenges of stability and sovereignty" and will be attended by various heads of state and government, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, among others who will discuss various matters related to with peace and security in Africa, writes Angop.

According to Angop, at the event, João Lourenço will participate in a panel where he will present his perspective as president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region on how to achieve stability in Africa and fight terrorism in Southern Africa.
