Speaking to the press, on his return from Qatar, the former Benfica forward said that he managed to resolve the impasse, with the help of former Al-Wakrah colleagues, who are currently directors of the same club.

"I am very happy. Fortunately, I managed to remove the 'chains' that existed on me. The secret was to touch the hearts of my former colleagues, who are now club directors, people close to the club's president. hold sporting positions in my country, but that I couldn't, because I was banned. The talks didn't just last three days, as people think, but two years", he said.

After the end of the 'nightmare', which lasted more than a decade, the former 'capitation' of the national football team and all-time top scorer reaffirmed his desire to run for president of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF). ), in the next Olympic cycle.

"I always said that I didn't want to be a football coach, because I don't have what it takes. I always said that I wanted to be president of the FAF and now it's no exception to the rule," he said.

Akwá was sentenced by FIFA in 2008 to pay a fine, after a complaint filed in Qatar by Al-Wakrah, who accused the former Angolan international of leaving the club to defend the colors of the Angolan national team in the 2006 African Cup of Nations. , which took place in Egypt.

As a result, the former footballer was forced to put an early end to his professional career, at the age of 29, and without the possibility of holding sporting positions.

In 2019, Akwá publicly said that, following the punishment applied, in 2008, a year later, the Angolan State had made the funds available for the payment of the debt, but the liability was not resolved, having accused the former coordinator of the Angolan football teams, Alves Simões, of having given the money an uncertain destination.

The accusation deserved the reaction of the accused, who initiated a lawsuit against the ex-'captain' of the selection, in the same year, whose decision of the justice is still awaited.
