Spain, Guinea-Bissau and Gabon congratulate MPLA and João Lourenço on victory

The authorities of Spain, Guinea-Bissau and Gabon congratulated the President, João Lourenço, for the victory of the MPLA in the vote held on 24 August and his re-election as head of state.

"The Spanish Government congratulates the people and the Government of Angola on the holding of the general elections on 24 August, the result of which was yesterday [Friday] validated by the Angolan Constitutional Court, and which took place in a climate of peace marked by normality", said a statement from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to which Lusa had access on Saturday.

"Spain, on the occasion of this important democratic exercise of the friendly people of Angola, expresses its firm will to continue working with the new government formed by President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, promoting the close bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation that unite our two countries", said the note from the Spanish ministry.

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, in a message sent to João Lourenço, declared that, on behalf of the Guinean people and in his personal name, he wished the Angolan head of state "warm congratulations" on his re-election.

"On this happy occasion, I would like, on behalf of the people of Guinea and on my own behalf, to emphasize the importance of the bonds of friendship and cooperation existing between our two peoples and countries, to reaffirm to your Excellency my determination to do everything that the themselves to develop and consolidate more and more for the benefit of our two friendly peoples", underlined Embaló.

The Guinean President also wished João Lourenço "good health and personal happiness", as well as "the continued well-being of the Angolan people".

"The people of Angola have just renewed their confidence in your political party, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), in the general elections held in your country on August 24, 2022," said a message from Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba, addressed to João Lourenço.

"By their own choice, your compatriots expressed the desire to continue to see you preside over the destinies of Angola", said Ali Bongo.

"Your reappointment to the supreme magistracy of your country, for a second term, offers me the happy opportunity to address you, on behalf of the Gabonese people, the Government of the Republic and myself, to wish you my sincere congratulations", declared Ali Bongo.

The Gabonese president also wished João Lourenço success in running the country, also underlined the excellent relations of friendship, fraternity and cooperation between Angola and Gabon and said he hoped there would be a strengthening of ties between the two countries.

About a week ago, the president of the CNE, Manuel Pereira da Silva, released the final tabulation minutes of the August 24 general elections, which proclaimed the MPLA and its candidate, João Lourenço, as winners with 51.17 percent. of votes, followed by UNITA with 43.95 percent.

With these results, the MPLA elected 124 deputies and UNITA 90 deputies, almost double the 2017 elections.

The Social Renewal Party (PRS) won two seats in parliament by adding 1.14 percent of voters' votes, the same number of deputies that won the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA) and the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA). ) with 1.06 percent and 1.02 percent of votes respectively.

The CASA-CE coalition, the APN and the P-Njango did not obtain seats in the National Assembly, which in the 2022-2027 legislature will have 220 deputies.
