"I was the one who asked for an indictment to be formalized. This requires a forensic inspection of the minutes and then we would compare the minutes. We are even publishing them," Adalberto da Costa Júnior told Lusa, urged to comment on the MPLA's request for criminal liability of UNITA for presenting "falsified documents" in the appeal filed with the Constitutional Court (TC).
Rui Falcão, MPLA's Secretary for Information and Propaganda, told Lusa on Friday that UNITA's allegations contained a series of irregularities and that there were "crimes in that process", urging judicial authorities to act accordingly.
What Adalberto da Costa Júnior opposed, recalling that UNITA precisely suggested a judicial inspection of all electoral records in its final declaration on the electoral process, in which it also proposed the comparison of the minutes held by the various competitors with those of the CNE, after to identify discrepancies of more than 500 thousand votes.
"Why is it that neither the CNE nor the TC accepted the comparison? We are not the ones who are afraid", stressed the leader of the "Galo Negro" party who saw on Thursday the TC dismiss the appeal presented by UNITA and validate the official results announced by the CNE last week.
The TC considered that the evidence presented "does not allow to question the overall results" of the elections announced by the CNE.
The judgment also stated, on page 6, that the applicant (UNITA) "enclosed in the case file alleged summary minutes of repeated polling stations (duplicated, tripled, quadrupled), false, erased, tampered with, without discrepant polling station codes as to content, written on A4 paper and unintelligible".
"These are not credible or serviceable elements to support the claimed claim", emphasizes the document approved in plenary by eight judges, with Judge Josefa Neto voting against.
The final tabulation minutes of the 24 August general elections proclaimed the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and its candidate, João Lourenço, as winners with 51.17 percent of the votes, followed by the National Union for Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) with 43.95 percent.
With these results, the MPLA elected 124 deputies and UNITA 90 deputies, almost double the 2017 elections.
The Social Renewal Party (PRS) and the debuting Humanist Party of Angola (PHA) each elected two deputies.
CASA-CE, the National Patriotic Alliance (APN) and P-Njango did not obtain seats in the National Assembly, which in the 2022-2027 legislature will have 220 deputies.
