Government enrolls Nosso Super and Poupa Lá stores in privatization program

The national public stores Nosso Super and Poupa Lá were enrolled in the Privatization Program (Propriv) and will be subject to a tender for the assignment of the operation and management rights, according to diplomas consulted by Lusa.

The presidential decree on the addition of Propriv sets 2021 as the date for the launch of the public tender for the two networks of stores built with public funds, which were under private management.

The stores, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, points out in another presidential decree, were developed by the executive "in the scope of the Restructuring Program of the Logistics and Distribution System and of Essential Products to the population," which was conceived with "the objective of modernizing the commercial network and creating new business opportunities".

In the same order, João Lourenço delegates to the Minister of Industry and Commerce the competences to approve the tender's pieces and appoint a negotiation commission that should include "representatives of the ministerial departments responsible for the activity sectors in which each asset and company are inserted".

The public supermarkets were being managed by the Zahara group, owner of the Kero hypermarkets, which is also in the process of transferring management.

The weekly newspaper Valor Económico reported, in the beginning of August, that several Nosso Super stores were already closed. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry assured Valor Económico that it was unaware of this information, stating that the Nosso Super stores are "managed by a management entity, whose contract is in force and runs until January 2022".

The Nosso Super chain, with 32 stores, has been operated by the Zahara Comércio group since January 2016.

The group belonging to generals Hélder Vieira Dias "Kopelipa" and Leopoldino Fragoso do Nascimento "Dino" is part of a batch of assets delivered last year to the National Asset Recovery Service.
