Forte de São Pedro Francisco do Penedo is located in Luanda and was used to guard the sea and protect the Port of Luanda.
Built on a rock, it is known that the fort was rebuilt in 1766, when it began to be used as a warehouse for slaves.
Later, in the 20th century, the fort functioned as a political prison for the Estado Novo in Portugal.
