According to a statement sent to VerAngola, the hub will start up with three cutting factories: KPG, Kapu Gems and Stardiam, which are in "full operation".

The Saurimo Diamond Development Center, according to the note, will also have two professional training centers (one specializing in diamond classification and evaluation, by Sodiam, and another specializing in geology, studies and projects, by Endiama), a hybrid power plant and a convention center.

"For its construction an investment of 77 million dollars has been approved," indicates the statement.

Regarding the commercial area, the development is composed of stores, restaurants, banks, tax offices, offices, a convention center and the two training centers.

"The industrial area has controlled access, reinforced security, and is made up of 26 lots of different sizes for factories, logistics platforms, and customs warehouses for the mining industry, where three lapidary factories are already in operation," the statement said.

Quoted in the statement, Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sodiam, said that "with this pole that today [Friday] the President of the Republic inaugurates here in Saurimo, and whose characteristics are those of a Special Economic Zone, we have created a set of private investment opportunities for nationals and foreigners, in addition to creating jobs for the local population".

"Along with the installation of companies and businesses directly linked to the diamond sub-sector, in particular, and to the mining sector in general, we have also invested in the training and capacity building of executives, with the implantation of two important centers. And, above all, with their construction we have created a center that will add value to the Angolan diamond chain and that will contribute significantly to the increase in revenue from our natural resource", he considered.

The responsible admitted that this project represents "the bet and the commitment that Angola, through its Executive and its companies, is putting in the good development of the national diamond sector".

Eugénio Bravo da Rosa also made it known that it is being implemented and developed in the country "relevant projects in the diamond sector, with the best and most solid national and international partners, with a view to the country being a respected and influential market in this field".

It should be noted that the focus on stimulating diamond cutting in the country is one of the goals of the Mining Sector Development Plan.
