João Lourenço inaugurates new headquarters of the Geological Institute of Angola

The President of the Republic inaugurated this Friday the new headquarters of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO). After the ribbon was cut and the unveiling of the plaque took place, João Lourenço visited the building.

According to the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, the head of state visited the data processing center, the library, the museum, the administrative area, the gymnasium, the auditorium and the restaurant that make up the building. João Lourenço also visited the laboratories and rooms where the geological elements of the country will be worked.

Diamantino Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, was also present at the inauguration ceremony. The governor considered that this new headquarters "proves the importance that the Government gives to scientific research, in order to stimulate the sustainable use of the country's mineral wealth".

Cited by Angop, the holder of the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas portfolio, stressed that for the country to succeed in the geological area it is necessary to have modern and well-equipped infrastructures as well as ensure qualified human resources.

The new headquarters of IGEO is located in the centrality of Kilamba, in Luanda, and consists of an area of 44,650 square meters.

The IGEO aims to execute, coordinate and study the country's mineral resources. Besides the headquarters in Luanda, IGEO also has two regional centers: one in the city of Lubango and another in Saurimo.
