CaféCIPRA joins Energy Minister and PCAs to address the country's electrification

“The electrification of the country and its impact on attracting investments” is the theme of the sixth edition of CaféCIPRA, to be held this Tuesday, June 7, at 3:00 pm, at the Press Center of the Presidency of the Republic (CIPRA).

The electricity subsector was one of the fastest growing in the last five years, both in terms of quality of service and quantity of investments. Since 2017, it has increased by 44.5 percent, reaching a power of 5.9 Gigawatts, says the Government in the presentation of the event.

The performance of this indicator stems from the start-up of the sixth generating unit in Laúca, the Soyo Combined Cycle Power Station, the installation of new Thermal Power Plants in Luena, Saurimo, Cuito and Lubango, as well as the installation and entry into service of New Power Plants Hybrids, located in the provinces of Cabinda, Benguela, Huambo, Namibe, Cunene and Uíge.

To combat regional asymmetries, the interconnection between the northern and central systems was completed, with integration into the national electricity system of the provinces of Benguela, Bié and Huambo.

In addition to these investments, others were made that allowed the expansion of household connections in several cities and towns in the country, and the growth of the number of beneficiaries in more than 472,000 families. Currently, the number of connections exceeds 1,700,000 customers, against around 1,200,000 existing customers in 2017.

The facilitators of the dialogue on the country's electrification and its impact on attracting investments are the Minister of Energy and Water (MINAGRIP), João Baptista Borges, and the presidents of the Boards of Directors of the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT), Rui Pereira do Amaral Gourgel, from the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), Hélder Adão, and from the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), António Henriques da Silva.

CaféCIPRA is a space for direct dialogue between representatives of the Executive and civil society, including journalists, economists, jurists, sociologists, activists and political and social analysts.
