Also known as the Namibe Fortress, the São Fernando de Namibe Fort is located on the top of the Ponta Negra hill in the Namibe province.
Dating back to the Portuguese colonial era, the fort was ordered built by the then governor-general of the province of Angola, Manuel Eleutério Malheiro, in 1840.
Four years later, in 1844, the work was given as completed and the fort was baptized Forte de São Fernando.
Currently, the Fort of São Fernando of Namibe is occupied by the command of the Naval Base of Namibe.
