In a message sent to the President of the Portuguese Republic, João Lourenço wrote that Portugal should take advantage of the celebrations for the Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities to "commemorate important achievements in the health field, for the exemplary and effective way in which it has so far managed to control and contain the spread of covid-19".

The Head of State considered 10 June a memorable date for Portugal and expressed his conviction that the strengthening of relations "will contribute to the materialization of various initiatives and projects of mutual interest".

The strengthening of diplomatic ties will "certainly help to boost Angola's development and the consolidation of Portugal's achievements, in all areas of your country's national life," he said.

Angola and Portugal have maintained bilateral relations for decades and have cooperation agreements in the fields of education, science and technology, research, medicine, among others.
