Moçâmedes Railway plans to launch 300 kilometers of line to link Angola to Namibia

Angola and Namibia may be linked by rail, from the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM). The company is currently carrying out a study to determine whether the launch of 300 kilometers of railway line between the two countries is feasible.

According to Daniel João Quipaxe, chairman of the company's Board of Directors (PCA), Namibia has already completed its part of the feasibility study, and is waiting for Angola to complete its part.

Cited by Angop, the official also said that the project needs a large investment, being outlined and budgeted for its implementation in the medium term.

Daniel João Quipaxe said that the areas through which the path will pass have already been recognized, adding that some rivers have been found that will require a great deal of work, taking into account the desired quality.

The company's CEO said that the plan is being studied in detail and believes that the results will soon be available: "These projects are all being taken care of and studied in detail and we believe that, soon, we will have the results of the studies and the quantification of the project itself".

Once completed, the project will bring benefits to the south of Angola, with special emphasis on the province of Huíla – seen as a hub for trade in Southern Africa as it has frequent movements of buses and trucks from Namibia and South Africa – , he considered, adding that the train will make the transport of goods more profitable and with low costs, writes Angop.

It should be noted that CFM, based in Lubango, has a 905-kilometre extension with 56 stations spread across Namibe, Huíla and Cuando Cubango, the latter of which borders Namibia.
