Angolan referee Hélder Martins officiates in the Confederation Cup semi-finals

The semi-final game of the African Confederation Cup, which pits TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Berkane from Morocco, will feature Angolan referees. CAF announced that Angolan international Hélder Martins will be responsible for refereeing the match.

The 'first leg' match of the semi-finals will take place on Sunday, in Kinshasa, DRC, and according to a CAF note quoted by Angop, the head judge will have compatriot Gerson Emiliano and Arsénio Marengula, from Mozambique, as assistants. .

Ahmed Heerarall, from Mauritius, was also appointed as the fourth referee, while the South Africans Victor Gomes and Zackele Siwela will be responsible for the Video Referee (VAR). Leslie Leonard, from Tanzania, will be the advisor.

At the age of 45, Hélder Martins is part of a group of 12 'elite' referees, selected by CAF – the governing body of African football – to referee the games of the last and most important phase of the 'Liga dos Campões Africanos'. Remember that Petro de Luanda is still in the competition.

Hélder Martins has previously refereed the semi-finals of this competition, in a match that took place in South Africa and pitted Sundows, playing at home, and Widad, from Morocco. The Moroccans won 1-2.

Throughout his career, the Angolan has refereed three African Cups of Nations (CAN), which took place in Angola (2010), Egypt (2019) and, more recently, in Cameroon (2021).
