Portuguese ship "Setúbal" visits Angola from Sunday for maritime safety

The oceanic patrol vessel NRP "Setúbal" will remain in the Angolan sea between 11 and 24 this month, to reinforce Angola's participation in the maritime security architecture of Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The information was advanced by the Portuguese embassy in Angola, through a note, in which it emphasizes that the Portuguese Navy annually develops the "Open Sea Initiative".

The initiative consists of employing naval resources on the west coast of Africa and the Gulf of Guinea region in cooperation activities in the field of defense, thus contributing to the materialization of cooperation agreements in the scope of inspection, cooperative surveillance, maritime security and even carrying out scientific activities.

"These cooperation actions are being developed in particular with Cape Verde, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Angola, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and also with Ghana", said the note.

During his stay in Angola, the NRP "Setúbal" will be on Sunday in Ambriz, Bengo province, with the objective of carrying out joint training and exercises between the Portuguese warship and the Angolan Navy Marines brigade.

In the period between 12 and 19 of this month, the ship will remain moored in the commercial port of Luanda, and must from 20 to 24 April call the port of Lobito.

"In addition to the joint exercises between the marine forces of Portugal and Angola, there will be joint exercises of search and rescue, surveillance and maritime security, in multiple aspects, with shipments on board, which will contribute to reinforce the training and the affirmation of the State at sea and for maritime security in the region ", said the document.

On the 13th, the Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Pedro Pessoa and Costa, will pay a visit to the NRP "Setúbal", in the commercial port of Luanda.
