"Angola is preparing to stop importing fertilizers and exporting urea", said Diamantino Azevedo, at an audience granted, on Tuesday (March 21), to German deputies Dietmar Freihoff and Stefan Keuter, who - according to a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, to which VerAngola had access – "showed interest in learning about aspects related to hydrogen and diversification in the sector of mineral resources, oil and gas".
Thus, the minister made, on the occasion, a brief presentation "of the recent reforms" carried out in the sector, namely "the new models of governance, the creation of the Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels and the National Agency for Mineral Resources, privatization of some projects", among others, adds the note.
Cited in the note, the official also referred that, currently, one of the challenges "is how to carry out economic diversification" in the country, admitting that, for that, they still need "a lot of oil and gas for diversification".
"We want to diversify a lot in the industry. We already have some factories, but we want more. The petrochemical industry, using oil and gas, is one of the paths for diversification," he added.
The holder of the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas portfolio also mentioned the commitment of the mineral resources sector to the production of fertilizers, "which are one of the indicators for the development of agriculture - one of the alternatives for national economic diversification -, adding that already" there are ongoing projects aimed at this purpose, as is the case of phosphate exploration projects in Cabinda, says the statement.
Thus, he advanced, "with the measures adopted, based on the Government program and ongoing projects, in the coming years, Angola will no longer need to import fertilizers and we will export urea".
Regarding the oil and gas sector, the minister, among other aspects, said that there is "a strategy for refining, refinery and petrochemicals", having highlighted "the works to improve the Luanda Refinery, the reduction of gases into the atmosphere and the construction refineries in Cabinda that will produce 60,000 barrels per day (bpd), in Soyo for 100,000 bpd and another in Lobito for 200,000 bpd", reads the note.
Diamantino Azevedo also stressed that "until the end of the mandate, we will have clean energy".
The audience was accompanied by the German ambassador accredited to Angola, Stefan Traumann.
