Ministry of Finance justifies February salary delay with “computer adjustments”

The Ministry of Finance said this Friday that “necessary computer adjustments to the payroll” were the basis for the delay in the payment of salaries, referring to the month of February, for the civil service.

According to the national director of the Institutional Communication Office of the Ministry of Finance, Adebayo Vunge, salaries began to be paid about a week ago, and all staff members have been paid up to the present date.

"Except for any bureaucratic or other sporadic situation that may occur", said Adebayo Vunge, stressing that "the Ministry of Finance regrets what happened, as it recognizes the importance that remuneration has for workers, households and for the consumer market of a general way".

The concern with salary arrears has been, in the last week, manifested by various sectors of Angolan society.

The parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) on Thursday also expressed concern about the situation, considering that this "aggravates the financial, economic and social condition of the affected officials as well as their families and companies".

"Therefore, the UNITA parliamentary group requests from the Ministry of Finance a public clarification of the reasons for the situation", he referred in a note to the media.
