Luanda Leaks: BCP will do what it "can to help" Efacec

The executive president of BCP said this Thursday that the bank has no need of additional impairments to face credits linked to Isabel dos Santos and that it will do what it "can to help" Efacec.

:

Asked about the repercussions on the bank of the problems experienced by companies linked to Isabel dos Santos, Miguel Maya said he had to be "very careful" to answer on the subject because he could not talk about clients and concrete situations, but said he did not plan to make up extra disparities.

"The expectation of BCP is that it does not need additional imparities for any of the situations that have been mentioned in the media," he said, also mentioning that in the news that appeared in the press about problems in companies linked to Isabel dos Santos a common scenario is that BCP is one of the banks with less exposure.

Regarding Efacec and the news from Público that a bank syndicate, the company's financier, may acquire Isabel dos Santos' participation with the conversion of credits into capital, Maya said that for BCP this is not the solution.

"I do not envisage any credit conversion in the case of BCP, I do not want to go into details, but I do not envisage that this is the way forward," she said.

However, he added, BCP will do "whatever it can to help" Efacec and the company's more than 2000 employees, but that this will be discussed in the right "forum".

Regarding the permanence of oil company Sonangol as a shareholder of BCP, Miguel Maya said that there is no indication to the contrary: "We have no indication that shareholders are not satisfied".

Sonangol is the second largest shareholder of BCP with 19.5 per cent of the share capital, the main shareholder being the Chinese group Fosun with around 27 per cent.
