As for regional issues, stresses the same note, the United States reiterated its support for the President's leadership in the search for solutions to conflicts in the Central African Republic and in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo).
Regarding the situation in the DRCongo, the US Government defends the need to implement the decisions taken at the Luanda Summit and calls for the assumption of responsibilities by the actors, with regard specifically to the withdrawal of the M23 from the positions it occupies in Congolese territory. and the creation of conditions for the cantonment of the elements of this force.
“In this afternoon's interaction between the President of the Republic of Angola and the US Secretary of State, the importance of the international community focusing its support on regional initiatives, that is, the Luanda process and the Nairobi process, was underlined” , underlines the note from the Presidency.
The note also mentions that João Lourenço and Antony Bliken took stock of the United States-Africa summit, which took place in December 2022, in Washington, with the North American side guaranteeing the implementation of the decisions taken in that forum.
According to the document, by the way, the personalities that the US President, Joe Biden, appointed to closely follow the subsequent process of the Washington Summit are going to visit the African continent in February, including Angola.
